LAGOS – Kunle Okunola, chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Lagos State organising secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has responded to the Northern Youth Forum of Nigeria (NYFN), that Amotekun was a programme of South-West for the actualisation of its presidential ambition, saying that only mischief makers and people who want to cause confusion in the country would link Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, national leader of APC to Amotekun.
Okunola told Daily Independent in an interview that only narrow-minded people and mischief makers would link Asiwaju Tinubu with Western Nigeria Security Networks also called Amotekun, stressing that Tinubu would be contesting for the president of Nigeria and not president of Oodua Republic.
He said that anyone insinuating Tinubu was behind formation of Amotekun was only trying to cause confusion in the country. He pointed out that Amotekun was a South West security outfit created to combat crime and other forms of insurgency in the region, maintaining that Tinubu did not want to get involved which was why he had not spoken about the project.
The former PDP chieftain said that power rotation must come to the South, wondering why the Northern youths were unnecessarily worried about matters that shouldn’t disturb them. He said that the security outfit was the idea of South-West governors and stakeholders in the region to protect their region being ravaged by criminals.
