The Headies, originally called the Hip Hop World Awards, is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to television viewers across Nigeria. The 1st and 2nd editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State . Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island , Lagos. Several media personalities in Nigeria have hosted the annual ceremony, including Darey Art Alade , D’banj ,Dakore Egbuson , Banky W., Rita Dominic , M.I ,Tiwa Savage and Dr SID .

Babatunde Olusegun Adewale, born June 14, 1975, popularly known by his stage name Modenine , is an English-born Nigerian rapper.

In 2014, he released a song titled “Super Human” with Jamaican-American rapper Canibus.

Mode9 was born in London on June 14, 1975. He is the third child of his parents who are from Osun State. He has credited Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five for inspiring his love for Hip Hop.

He attended Agboju secondary school. He earned a degree in Building Technology at Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, Nigeria.

He worked with Rhythm 84.7fm in Abuja, Nigeria as a radio presenter.

In 2004, Mode9 released his debut project, Malcolm IX. His next album, Pentium IX was released in 2006. In 2007, he released another album called É Pluribus Unum. Modenine has eight studio albums. He released in 2018, a new album titled Hence4th produced by Black Intelligence. In 2019, he released an album titled The Monument.

In 2006, he became the first Nigerian artist to win The Headies Award for Best Rap Single, a ceremony that was established in 2006 and originally called the Hip Hop World Awards.

So far, he has won a total of 9 Headies Awards, making him the highest Headies Awards wins.

2Baba was born on September 18, 1975. He was born in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State, Nigeria. His roots are from the Idoma ethnic group that inhabited the southern area of Benue State in central Nigeria.

Benue State is also the home of Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School in Makurdi where 2Face Idibia got his primary education. After he finished high school, he enrolled at the Institute of Management & Technology (IMT) to study business administration and management. This part of his life was not only a step into an independent future but also the starting point of his music career.

In 1996, while he was in IMT, 2Face began writing jingles at Enugu Broadcasting Services. Eventually, 2Face dropped out of school to pursue a career in music. He left Enugu for Lagos, where he started collaborating with Blackface Naija. They met when 2Baba was studying at IMT. They decided to start a band with another musician, Faze.

The trio named their band Plantashun Boiz and released two successful albums:Body and Soul (2000), Sold Out (2003).

In 2004, the band broke up, and each musician went to start a solo career. It was a perfect opportunity for 2Face to show all his talents as a solo artiste. He released several albums such as Face 2 Face (2004), Grass 2 Grace (2006).

However, in 2007, all the members of the band reunited and released their third album “Plan B”.

Later, in 2008, the singer produced his next album “ The Unstoppable”. In 2010, the album’s international edition was released under the title “The Unstoppable International Edition.”

Prior to July 2014, he went by the stage name 2face Idibia. He is one of the most decorated and successful Afro pop artists in Africa, and is also one of the most bankable performing music artistes in Africa.

He has won a total numbers of 7 Headies, and is the second highest Headies Awards wins behind Mode 9.
