The 100K Filing Fee By EC Encourages Corruption – Asiedu Nkatia


The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Asiedu Nkatia has indicated that the Ghc 100,000 as the filing fee for presidential candidates encourages corruption.

The presidential candidates are said to pay GHC 100,000 and the Parliamentary Candidates are also paying 10,000 by the Electoral Commission.

Some candidates of the opposition party have complained about the amount which they claim it’s 100% percent increment the amount they paid in 2016.

Nana Obiri Boahen, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC has however said candidates who cannot raise the money should leave the contest.

Asiedu Nkatia popularly known as General Mosquito reacted that if you’re going to put people in the office and the process is expensive to the extent that the salaries of elected officials cannot impact the cost that means they will have to look elsewhere to defray the cost.


He explained that it’s understandable that the Electoral Commission is taking money for filling forms because it’s that money that is used for the election.

The General Secretary also noted that the NDC party has been fighting for state sponsorship in other to reduce cost on political parties.
