Trump promises ‘best year ever’ next year, vows to protect gun rights

President Trump predicted next year “will be our best year ever” and positioned himself as the protector of the nation’s gun rights in a series of campaign promises Sunday morning.

“Winning Big. Next year, if I’m re-elected, will be our best year ever! Sleepy Joe wants to quadruple your taxes and go to socialized healthcare. Depression!,” Trump tweeted, linking to a Trump War Room posting that 1.4 million jobs were added in August.

The “Sleepy Joe” reference was to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, who has said he wants to build on Obamacare and wants to raise the corporate tax rate from 21 percent to 28 percent.

The president also said he would protect the Second Amendment.

“VIRGINIA, and everywhere else for that matter, I am the only thing standing between you and your 2nd Amendment. If I am re-elected, it is 100% SAFE. If not, it is GONE!,” the president wrote.

“And 96% in the Republican Party. Save your 2nd Amendment!,” he said in another posting, referring to a Rasmussen Reports poll from last Friday that showed his approval rating at 53 percent.

In August, 1.4 million jobs were added, lowering the unemployment rate 1.8 percentage points to 8.4 percent.

The jobless rate reached a high of 14.7 percent in April because of the economic wreckage of the coronavirus pandemic.
