Bethenny Frankel says she’s tried to get black women on ‘RHONY’

Bethenny Frankel claims she tried hard to get women of color on the “Real Housewives of New York.”

While appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” on Thursday, the Skinnygirl mogul chatted with host Andy Cohen about how she has always recommended women for the show, “including several African-American women.”

Frankel, 49, added, “I love you and I love what you guys are doing and I wanted to say that because I got messages about that.”

Cohen agreed that she did consistently submit names, like alum Aviva Drescher, but stayed mum when Frankel mentioned women of color. It was recently reported that the Bravo series may have cast Bershan Shaw, who would be the first black cast member.

After the show, one of Frankel’s Twitter followers thanked her “for trying to refer black women to #RHONY! I mean it’s NYC. There are black millionaires ‘housewives’ a plenty on the UWS.”

Frankel responded, “For years, I have submitted black women. We live in NY. This isn’t a new or innovative concept. It’s truth.”

She was one of the original Housewives when the show debuted in 2008 and has appeared on and off for eight seasons. The mom of one also had a spinoff show entitled “Bethenny Ever After,” which chronicled her ill-fated marriage to pharmaceutical rep Jason Hoppy.

Cohen also asked if she would ever return to the reality show that made her a star.

“If you get my gate code and there’s a Brink’s truck full of a lot of cash, you know. It’s all about the Benjamins, baby!” she joked.

Bravo did not respond with comment.
