Six Corps Members Reportedly Test Positive For Coronavirus In Abia

The novel coronavirus is still with us as efforts are underway to get an effective vaccine for the virus continues.

In Nigeria, almost sixty-eight thousand (68,000) persons have been infected with the virus, close to sixty-four thousand (64,000) of the infected persons have recovered. Sadly one thousand, one hundred and seventy-three(1,173) persons have lost their lives according to the Worldometer.

Recent reports also indicate that six (6) corps members have contracted the deadly virus in Abia State, Nigeria.

The Abia State Commissioner for information in a press conference said the cases were discovered as a result of the vigilance of the Nigerian State’s team on Covid-19.

Mr. John Okiyi-Kalu said, “Our attention has been drawn to social media publications regarding the ongoing compulsory testing for COVID-19 of all potential National Youth Service Corps members in the state prior to camping”.

He further gave the assurance that the government will support the corps with epidemiology, surveillance, and rapid response teams.

Meanwhile, the 6 persons who tested positive have been managed and discharged.
