A popcorn seller has been arrested for allegedly attacking officials of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) on Tuesday.

A statement by LAGESC Head of Public Affairs, Kehinde Adebayo, said the suspect was apprehended around Railway Crossing, Fagba, in Ifako-Ijaye Local Council Development Area.

He said the the 30-year-old was hawking popcorn and when officials of the corps tried to do their job, the popcorn seller brought out a knife and charms to attack the operatives.

LAGESC Corps Marshal, Gbemisola Akinpelu, condemned the incident.

Akinpelu said the trader was eventually subdued and moved to the agency’s headquarters for questioning.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution to serve as deterrent to others,” she said.

The LAGESC chief who is a retired Commissioner of police, decried the incessant attacks on the personnel effecting the ban of illegal street trading.
