Zamfara State House of Assembly member Muhammad Ahmad, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday at Sheme in Kastina state while Ahmad was on his way to Kano.
The deceased was said to be on his way to Kano to drop off his son, who was returning to school in Sudan.
Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura, the House’s Director-General of Press and Public Affairs, confirmed the news.
“He was taking his son to a hospital in Kano. The lawmaker’s son and driver were kidnapped by the bandits,’’ Jafaru-Kaura said.
Speaking on the incident, the police spokesman in Katsina, Gambo Isah, said,
“It was at night and killers have mounted a road block where they stopped some vehicles for robbery. Other commuters have turned back when they comprehended the situation.
“The vehicle conveying the late member was one of those that attempted to turn back, but unfortunately they were too close to the gunmen, and they immediately opened fire on them and shot him in the head, where he died on the spot.”
