Of all the millions of baby videos on the internet, this baby is hitting it big.
“Big Baby,” the toddling TikTok sensation, has many scratching their heads wondering how old he is and, thanks to his latest football-throwing video, when he’s eligible for the NFL draft.
This large-headed kid landed on the internet last week in a video in which he gleefully bounces up and down on his dad’s lower back. Shirtless and freshly diapered, the giant tot moves to the beat of “Woah” by KRYPTO9095 and unintentionally puffs out clouds of baby powder right on cue.
And legions of fans are watching the enormous 43-inch bruiser. The TikTok account that features Big Baby has snagged nearly 112,000 followers and 2.2 million likes in less than a month.
But, like every star, he has his haters. The original tweet that kicked it all off asked, “Is anyone else just absolutely REPULSED by this giant baby?” and has nearly 19 million views. A prolific Twitter poster, who goes by @blanketm9, requested, “Please stop putting that big baby on my timeline.”
Some 20 million views later, details about the young star have emerged. He’s a perfectly off the charts, size-wise for his age, 3-year-old named Gavin. The hashtagged #countryboy resides on a Midwestern farm with his 16-year-old brother Caleb and parents. While his smooth looking head appears to be bald, his mom Kat has made it clear that Gavin actually has thin, reddish-blond hair that can look invisible online.
After the bouncing video went viral, Kat has posted several other videos of her big boy heaving a football, dragging a mini truck and lifting a giant log.
“I woke up on Sunday,” she told Buzzfeed, “and I said to my husband, ‘I’m going to make him famous — and it happened.’ ”
People have thrilled to footage of him rolling around in the mud, sitting behind the wheel of his dad’s car and doing a sort of pole dance. One fan described him as “so stinking adorable” and another asked, “Can we please be nice to Big Baby?”
If Kat is put off by the negative notices and memes, you’d never know it by the way she hypes her boy on TikTok.
“With the baby powder, it was funny. It went perfectly with the song,” she told Insider of his claim to fame. “That’s what went viral and took off, and then everyone wants to make fun of him because he’s big. He’s just a big boy.”
Kat added that Gavin was 6 pounds, 15 ounces when he was born, and is perfectly healthy, but there are “big genetics in the family.”
Maybe it’s a byproduct of the COVID-19 doldrums, but Kat is going to keep posting, and she just might invest in some new video equipment.
“We’re in a bad time at the moment,” she told Buzzfeed. “I think he’s brought a lot of joy to people. I wish I had a mom-cam on myself because I can’t capture all the stuff he does.”
