‘Deaf U’ on Netflix: Everything You Need to Know

Get ready for a college experience like you’ve never seen before. This fall Netflix will premiere Deaf U, an eight-episode series all about a tight-knit group of friends at a school for the hearing impaired. And if the trailer is anything to go by, this is one docuseries you won’t want to miss.

Produced by deaf activist, model, and actor Nyle DiMarco, Deaf U takes place at a private college for the deaf and hearing impaired. According to DiMarco the goal of the series is “to show deaf people as humans, from all walks of life.” Here’s everything you need to know about when you can watch this sure-to-be-addictive docuseries.

What Is Deaf U on Netflix About?

Netflix’s latest reality show will focus on a tight-knit group of students at Gallaudet University, a private university for the deaf and hard of hearing. The series is set to explore the little-known world of deaf culture. But really this new show is about drama. There are hookups, romantic betrayals, and parties galore in this Netflix original. After all no matter who the subjects are, this is still college.

Where Is Deaf U’s Gallaudet University?

Gallaudet University is located in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1864, it became the first school to offer higher education to the deaf and hard of hearing. To this day it remains one of the few colleges or universities that has structured all of its classes in a way to accommodate deaf students. Because of this ASL is the primary language of Gallaudet, and deaf culture is seen as the dominant culture. As of 2018 there were only a little more than 1,800 students who attended Gallaudet University.

Is There a Deaf U Trailer?

There certainly is, and you won’t want to miss it. Right away the trailer starts off with one of the show’s subjects telling an ex that she isn’t sure if they’ll get back together but she likes sleeping with him. And it only gets better from there. From arguments about whether someone is “deaf enough” to excited interviews about Gallaudet’s hot ladies, there’s a lot going on in Deaf U‘s first look.
