The National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq, has advised the Nigerian government to increase salaries of civil servants every four years.
As workers celebrated their day on Friday, Bamgbose noted that they are no doubt the pillars of every nation and indispensable too.
“No nation can survive without viable workers. When they down tools, the whole nation suffers. They are the bedrock of every country,” the legal practitioner added in a statement to Newzandar News.
He also noted that the strength of a nation is measured by the strength of its workers, therefore, no amount invested in their welfare is a waste, insisting that the stronger the workers, the better a nation will be.
“It’s against this background that we are advocating for a law to be made for upward review of workers salary every four years. This is never a demand that cannot be effected,” the lawyer said.
“The rate of inflation in Nigeria is alarming. The Government should be proactive in tending to the welfare of the nation.
“We expect our President to take a firm decision on this. The upward review should not be left with politicians. The law should be the determinant. Nigerian workers deserve a better social welfare program.”
