NIPOST vs FIRS: Reps Intervene As They Condemn Stamp Duty Battle


In a stakeholders meeting which was held in Abuja on Tuesday, members of the Nigerian House of Representatives has stepped in to settle the battle between the Nigerian Postal Service and the Federal Inland Revenue Service over the collection of stamp duties.

Describing the battle as an “unnecessary and unhelpful.” drag, the House Chairman of the committee,which had as chairman of it’s committee, Mr James Faleke, made move to settle the dispute between the two agencies reaching a resolution concerning the N58bn stamp duties revenue collected from February 2016 to April 2023.

The meeting had the presence of  Maimuna Abubakar, the Chairman of the Board of NIPOST, Postmaster General/Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Ismail Adewusi; Chairman of FIRS, Muhammad Nami; and other top officials of both bodies.

Faleke said the open fight by the two government agencies was embarrassing the committee, forcing the lawmakers to intervene and address the issue.

He said the lawmakers decided to convene dialogue to see if the agencies were doing the bidding of the law.
