Tigers vs. Royals prediction: Pitching matchup makes Under the play

It has been a lost season for both the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals, but both are bringing their best starters to the mound Friday as each looks to close out the season with momentum.

Both Spencer Turnbull of the Tigers and Brad Keller of the Royals have records of 4-3 and have given up fewer than 0.4 home runs and 7.2 hits per nine innings. Turnbull has walked 4.7 per nine innings, a big reason his ERA is 3.83 compared to Keller’s 2.77, despite Keller getting just 5.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Royals silently have pitched to a bullpen ERA that ranks eighth in the majors, but are one of just four teams generating four runs per game or fewer.

With the Royals also ranking third in Under rate with more than 60 percent of their games staying south of the total, Friday’s showdown in Kansas City should feature a pair of quality starts and a low-scoring affair.

The play: Tigers-Royals total, Under 8.5 runs.
