A teenager and two accomplices have reportedly been apprehended for the kidnapping and murder of his 3-year-old cousin in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area in Katsina State.
According to reports, a child named Amina was reported missing by her parents last Thursday, June 10. Her body was eventually discovered hidden in a chair at a nearby house.
According to sources, the main suspect, Aminu, plotted with his two pals to kidnap the victim and demand N2m from her father.
Tukur Dan Ali, the deceased’s father, told media in an interview that Aminu approached him with a letter claiming to be from his daughter’s kidnappers demanding a ransom of N2m to stop her being killed.
“Later, Aminu, my nephew, approached me with a letter and said it was from the kidnappers. In the letter, the kidnappers said Amina was still alive but if I fail to provide N2 million they would kill her,” Dan Ali narrated.
He stated that after presenting the letter to the police, his nephew was invited to explain how he obtained the letter, which is how he became a suspect.
On how the corpse was located, Dan Ali stated that it was not Aminu, who was with the police at the time, who provided them the clue, but rather they chose to examine a relative’s residence whose keys were in Dan Ali’s control and Aminu had just been spotted using the house.
“When we entered the house, there was a noticeable stench but as we searched from one room to another we found where the odour was coming from. When we moved in, we found Amina’s dead body stuck in a three sitter,” he said.
Aminu and his two accomplices have been transferred to the State Command for further interrogation and investigation.
