According to family sources, her first step after the break with her mother was to alter her name from Chidinma Blessing Echefu to Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu.

Chioma, one of her siblings, informed detectives that they lost their father when Chidinma was only two years old. Her mother was rumored to have remarried, but her children remained with her. Chidinma’s lifestyle reportedly deteriorated over time, with her mother constantly chastising her. She was said to have started smoking when she was just 11 years old, which prompted her mother to scold her.
