GFA match review panel bans two referees for rest of season

The Match Review Panel of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned a center referee, Isaac Bassaw, and assistant referee, A. F. Zakari, from officiating for the rest of the season.

The two referees officiated a Division One League game between Wassaman FC and Star Madrid. Wassaman complained of a goal wrongfully being disallowed, which led to an abrupt end of the game.

The panel upheld the complaint after watching a footage of the incident and took a decision to ban the two for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

“Wassaman FC complained about a Referee Isaac Bassaw and Assistant Referee One, A.F. Zakari’s decision to disallow a goal they scored, which resulted in the abrupt end of the match,” read a statement from the GFA.

“Per the video watched, the Committee found that the decision of the referee was wrong and Wassaman should have been credited with the goal.

“The Committee also found that the performance of the referee and his Assistant One contributed a great deal of negativity in the game, which finally resulted in the abrupt end of the match.

“DECISION! Consequently, the Match Review Panel therefore takes the following decisions:

“Referee Isaac Bassaw and Assistant Referee are hereby banned from officiating for the rest of the league season.”
