HIGHLIGHTS: Legon Cities hammer Ashantigold to move out of relegation zone

Legon Cities hammered Ashantigold 5-2 on Friday night in a Ghana Premier League week 10 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium to move out of the relegation zone for the meantime.

The Royals made it two home victories in a row for the first time this season after a poor start that saw them sack Goran Barjaktarevic after just two games.

The Miners took the lead early in the 6th minute after Yaw Annor pounced on Fatau Dauda’s howler inside the box.

Cirkovic’s side’s lead lasted only three minutes as Nasiru Moro scored a stunner from outside the box to pull the leveler in the 9th minute.

Annor restored Ashgold’s lead in the 31st minute from close-range, Cities pulled parity at the stroke of halftime through Jonah Attuquaye to finish the first half 2-2.

Baba Mahama dragged the Royals into a big lead after a near-post finish five minutes into the second-half.

David Cudjoe scored a quick brace in the 55th and 62nd minute to round up a convincing win for Bashir Hayford’s side.

Ashantigold got an opportunity to reduce the deficit when a penalty was awarded to them but Annor failed to find the back of the net as Dauda saved it.

Cities ended the match with 10 men after central defender Nicholas Mensah was sent off for a cynical tackle.

The Royals will temporarily stay out of the drop zone awaiting other games to be played in the coming days over the week.

They have 9 points in 10 games, level on points with Berekum Chelsea, who have played a game less and the Miners still maintain their third spot with 16 points.
