UCL: Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen hail Havertz after Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid

England legends, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen have singled out Chelsea’s Kai Havertz for praise in the Blues 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

They also believe that Chelsea will be a big problem for Manchester City at the final because of their strong character.

Two goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount set up an all Premier League Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City.

Ferdinand and Owen are backing Havertz to become a great player at Chelsea while comparing the Germany International to former United and Tottenham forward Dimitar Berbatov.

Havertz had a difficult start to his Chelsea coupled with a spell out of the team with coronavirus but he is beginning to flourish.

The 21-year-old scored twice during Chelsea’s Premier League victory over Fulham last weekend and played a key role in the club’s Champions League win over Real Madrid.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: “He [Havertz] reminds me of Berbatov, a player I played with at Manchester United. He’s got that lazy swagger at times and that nonchalance about him.

“The guy is just so smooth man. The game doesn’t quicken up around him. The game slows down to his pace, he gets things done. I think he will grow into a really important player for Chelsea.”

Owen added: “I like Havertz. Some people hit the ground running when they come to the Premier League, he’s needed a bit of time but he’s a great asset.

“Not many players can do what he does. He’s going to be very good for this football club, I just think he needs time.”

While Manchester City will be hoping to win their Champions League trophy ever, Chelsea could be crowned for a second time having won the trophy back in 2012.
