8-month-old girl killed in hit-and-run on Long Island

An 8-month-old girl died Monday and her mother was injured during a hit-and-run accident in Long Island, authorities said.

The infant, identified as Saige Berry, was inside a 2006 Nissan Murano that was heading east on Davidson Street near Pine Street in Wyandanch around 9 p.m. Sunday when the driver struck a westbound 2010 Lexus and overturned, Suffolk County police said.

The Nissan driver then bolted on foot, leaving Saige and her 24-year-old mother Dywanna Finney behind in the vehicle.

Saige was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical condition, and her mother went to the same hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
