NYC beaches will open on time this year

The Big Apple’s eight public beaches will open for swimming on time this year on Memorial Day weekend, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.

“It’s going to be a wonderful summer in New York City,” de Blasio said during a City Hall press briefing.

However, sun worshippers are still going to have to abide by state coronavirus health protocols, like maintaining at least six feet of distance between themselves and others — and wearing a mask when they can’t.

“If things continue to improve, hopefully we can relax some of those rules,” the mayor said.

Additionally, de Blasio said that 48 of the city’s 53 public outdoor pools will open as soon as Gotham’s schools are out for the summer. The remaining five closed pools are undergoing rehabilitation.

“It’s outdoors, it’s exactly where we want people to be,” de Blasio said of the pools and beaches. “It’s exactly how we want the families of New York City to spend their summer.”
