The latest Times Square shooting victim is the newlywed son-in-law of a former Green Beret and counterterrorism official at the Pentagon, The Post has learned.
Samuel Poulin, 21, married Jacqueline Jensen, 23, during a May 22 ceremony at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, NC, according to information posted on social media.
The bride’s dad, retired US Army Col. Jack Jensen, walked her down the aisle and was tagged in a Facebook photo by his daughter.
Jack Jensen served more than 30 years as a member of the Army Special Forces and was commander of the US Central Command’s Special Operations Command in Lebanon during 2011 and 2012, according to his LinkedIn page.
He then spent two years as assistant deputy director for counterterrorism under the Joint Chiefs of Staff, briefing the White House and members of Congress in addition to “orchestrating national command and control and strategic nuclear watch,” his resume says.
Jensen retired in 2015 and worked briefly as a private-sector analyst before being hired by the Treasury Department, where he’s now principal director for policy and strategy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Management.
Meanwhile, Poulin graduated last month from The Citadel military academy in Charleston, SC, where he was a member of the Marine Corps ROTC and in April received the Daughters of the American Revolution Award.
The honor goes to one cadet from each ROTC unit who “demonstrates the qualities of dependability and good character, leadership ability and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of ROTC training,” according to The Citadel’s website.
In a tweet Monday, the school said, “We are sending our prayers and our love to 2nd Lieutenant Samuel Poulin, ’21, his new wife and his family.”
Citadel president Glenn Walters, a retired Marine Corps general, also said in a statement that Poulin “holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, was a President’s List cadet and exemplifies the kind of principled leader The Citadel strives to produce.”
Poulin, who lives in Northville, NY, was struck in his back by a ricocheting bullet while walking with his wife, sister and brother-in-law outside the Marriott Hotel at West 45th Street and Broadway around 5:15 p.m. Sunday.
The crime scene is just a block from where a 4-year-old girl and two others were also hit by stray gunfire last month.
Sunday’s shooting is suspected to involve a dispute between two groups, possibly rival CD peddlers, sources have said.
Poulin was released after being treated for a flesh wound at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, a law enforcement source said Monday.
