Upstate NY man kills daughter, mother-in-law in double murder-suicide

An upstate New York man shot and killed his 14-year-old daughter and his mother-in-law before turning the gun on himself Wednesday, according to police and news reports.

Bhupinder Singh, 57, shot his teen daughter, Jasleen Kaur, and 55-year-old Manjeet Kaur around 9 p.m. inside his home in the town of Schodack, about 12 miles south of Albany, New York State Police announced Thursday.

Police said Rashpal Kaur, 40, identified by the Albany Times Union as Singh’s wife, was shot in the arm but managed to escape the home.

The wounded woman was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries — with troopers waiting to interview her.

Neighbor Jim Lundstrom told the Times Union that he was laying in bed Wednesday night when he heard his doorbell ring nonstop.

“Help me! Help me!” he said he heard someone scream.

“We live on a dead end street, so the only people who come up here are the people who live here,” Lundstrom told the newspaper. “I’ve lived here for 27 years. Nobody’s rang my doorbell constantly holding on like that.”

“So, my first reaction was, ‘Something’s wrong with somebody,” he said.

He said he saw the wounded woman walking away from the house through his window then opened his front door.

“There was blood everywhere,” Lundstrom said.

That’s when he called police.

Police were able to follow the trail of blood to Singh’s house, where they found the bodies. The investigation remains ongoing, cops said.
